Landscaping Services in West Virginia

Design. Build. Maintain. Nearly every service in-house.

Nearly every service below is delivered in-house, by Valley Gardens people and equipment. That is how we work to control delivery time and work quality.

01 · Landscape maintenance

Weekly care that compounds.

A property does not decline in a week. It declines over two seasons of slightly-late mowing, unfed turf and beds that were never edged properly.

Our maintenance programs are built around the specific property — turf type, exposure, traffic, irrigation and how the site is used. Frequency is set in writing, and the same crews return, so problems get noticed by people who know what the property looked like last month.

Maintenance is route-based work, so these contracts run within our service area rather than statewide. See the counties and communities we route.

02 · Landscape architecture & design

Drawn properly, before anything is dug.

A licensed landscape architect on staff is the difference between a plant list and a plan.

Design work begins with the site: how water moves across it, where the grade fights you, what the views are, how people arrive and where they will actually spend time. Only then does planting get selected — at mature size, for this climate, in a palette that still reads as intentional in year eight.

You receive drawings you can hold, a materials and plant schedule, and a costed scope. Large projects get phased so the budget can be spread without the property ever looking half-built.

  • Master planning and site design
  • Value-engineered budgets
  • Climate-appropriate plant selection
  • Hardscape layout, grading and drainage design
  • Collaboration with developers, GCs and architects

03 · Landscape installation

The stage where plans either survive or get compromised.

We install what we drew, with our own crews, which removes the usual argument about what the drawing meant.

Soil preparation, planting depth, drainage behind a wall, base under a walkway — the parts nobody sees are the parts that decide whether a landscape lasts. Bulk work like mulch blowing and hydroseeding is handled with our own equipment, so large sites get done in days rather than dragged out over weeks. Landscape lighting is installed as part of the same build, so wiring goes in before the beds are finished instead of being trenched through them afterward.

Installation and construction work is statewide. Unlike maintenance, project work is not tied to a route — we will build anywhere in West Virginia.

Seasonal agreements

What we agree in advance

Priorities
Which entrances, aisles and walks open first.
Stacking
Where snow goes, so you keep the parking you are paying to clear.
Protection
Beds, irrigation heads, signage and specimen plants that must not be buried or salted.
Trigger & terms
The depth we mobilize at, and seasonal versus per-event billing.

04 · Commercial snow & ice management

On contract or on call.

Winter service is the one line item where a landscaping decision becomes an access and liability question.

Snow and ice service is for commercial properties, and it can be handled two ways. A seasonal agreement puts your property on our routes with priorities agreed in advance, and existing commercial customers without a snow contract can call us for service on demand. Either way, lots, drive aisles, walkways, entrances and steps are handled as one job — because a plowed lot with an icy doorway is not an open property.

  • Seasonal agreements, or on-call service for existing customers
  • Plowing, lot clearing and snow relocation
  • Hand shoveling on walks, entrances and steps
  • Salting and ice treatment

05 · Irrigation

Water where it is needed, and nowhere else.

A badly zoned system drowns half a property, starves the other half, and quietly runs up a bill for the privilege.

We design systems around the actual planting plan — sun, slope, soil and plant water needs — rather than dropping heads on a grid. Because we install them, we know where every valve and line is when something needs fixing years later, which turns a dig-and-guess repair into a scheduled visit.

  • System design for new and existing landscapes
  • New installation
  • Spring start-up and testing
  • Autumn winterization and blow-out
  • Service, repair, head replacement and rezoning
  • Controller upgrades and efficiency adjustments

06 · Material delivery

Bulk material, delivered by the yard.

For projects you are handling yourself, or to top up a property between service visits.

We deliver the same materials we use on our own jobs, in the quantities a real job calls for rather than by the bag. Mulch can be blown into place on larger sites, which gets an even depth into beds that a wheelbarrow crew would take days to reach.

Prefer to pick it up yourself? Our garden center at 1109 Piedmont Rd in Charleston carries plants, shrubs and nursery stock, and we load bulk mulch, compost and topsoil right at the yard.

  • Screened topsoil
  • Compost and soil amendments
  • Bulk mulch, including blown installation
  • Trees, shrubs and nursery stock

One service or all six. We will walk the site, tell you what we would do first, and put it in writing.
